    Understanding Florida's Electronic Visit Verification

The Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) has established a minimum compliance threshold to improve compliance with EVV requirements so that claims are not denied. The EVV implementation phases in Florida were as follows:

    December 1, 2019

AHCA directed SMCC to verify visits for home care and personal care services electronically.

    February 1, 2020

The enforcement payment penalties for the non-compliance of EVV mandates.

    January 1, 2021

EVV was successfully implemented in Florida.

Understanding and securing EVV technology is essential as it helps providers verify visits.

What are the home care regulations & EVV rules in Florida?

The Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) is responsible for Florida's Medicaid program, licensure, and regulations of Florida's home and health facilities. It also provides information to Floridians about the quality of care they receive. Some regulations that home care agencies and caregivers must adhere to are:

    • Caregivers must have a 100% clean DMV record and a valid driver's license. Caregivers often have to provide transportation services for their clients and run errands.
    • Since caregiving is a physically and emotionally demanding job, the state of Florida requires caregivers to have proof of a health check.
    • 12 hours of professional caregiver training by a state-approved training center is suggested.
    • FLSA (Fair Labor Standards Act) protections for overtime do not apply to caregivers whose job involves providing company for an elderly (for example, taking the client for walks or reading).
    • A senior caregiver usually receives $50 to 1 week's salary as a holiday bonus in Florida.

Using home care management software can make your life easier. The GPS-enabled technology helps Florida Home Care Agencies verify and keep track of caregiver onboarding and satisfy state regulations. Caregiver training is mandatory as it allows caregivers to expand their skills and lets them learn anywhere and anytime!
