Home Care Expert Insights

In Conversation with Wendy McHaney to Bring Her Insights on High‑Quality Home Care

Seniors need the comfort of waking every morning bathed in sunlight spilling through their favorite window—and knowing they’ll receive expert care without leaving the comfort of home. This scenario is the promise of home care guided by robust training protocols, evidence‑based QA frameworks, and regular audits.

When caregivers complete intensive programs like a Center of Excellence curriculum, they bring not only hands‑on skills but also empathy and specialized knowledge, fostering genuine connection. Underpinning this personalized approach, continuous compliance checks and rigorous audits protect client safety by minimizing risks such as medication errors, falls, or unnecessary hospital readmissions.

As caregivers progress through training modules and earn incentives, a resilient workforce emerges, ready to meet evolving needs, from dementia support to chronic care management. For families, the result is priceless: the assurance that a loved one’s well‑being is championed by competent, compassionate professionals who uphold both dignity and independence.

In today’s rapidly aging society, investing in superior home care is more than a competitive edge—it’s a vital commitment to preserving quality of life for those we cherish most.

To shed some light on the same, we interviewed a home care industry expert to bring her perspective on high‑quality home care.

Expert QA session with Wendy McHaney

Who Did We Interview?

Wendy McHaney is the Owner of Senior Helpers of Victoria, transforming an 11‑year litigation career into a passion for in‑home senior care. She served six years on the Senior Helpers Owner’s Council and led both the Victoria County Bar Association and the Trinity Episcopal Board of Trustees.

A former stay‑at‑home mom turned community leader, Wendy blends legal acumen with empathetic caregiving to steadfastly champion high‑quality, compassionate services. Under her guidance, her agency has expanded its reach across multiple Texas communities.

Let us now delve into what she has to say about high‑quality home care:

Question 1: Which QA frameworks, training protocols, and audit processes ensure consistent, high‑quality care?

We have a Center of Excellence all-day training program that all of our caregivers complete within their first month of employment. This includes classroom training, hands on skills training, and dementia training.

Our caregivers are incentivized to complete additional trainings on the Relias training platform. We use a consulting company who audits our company onsite semi-annually to ensure state and federal compliance.

Question 2: What initiatives are you using to recruit and retain caregivers and build a resilient, inclusive workforce?

We have a full time recruiter through Cleardesk who meets weekly recruiting KPIs to ensure we have enough workforce. To retain caregivers, we have an incentive program that provides incentives for hours worked and trainings completed.

Each incentive level includes a certain uniform shirt, a milestone badge for their lanyard, gift cards, and pay raises.

Question 3: Which trends will most reshape home care in 2025, and how is your agency positioning itself to lead?

I believe that comprehensive training programs continue to be one of the most important trends, which is why we implemented the Center of Excellence training program.

In Conclusion

As we wrap up our deep dive with Wendy McHaney, it’s clear that high‑quality home care is built on more than procedures—it’s a pledge to uphold each individual’s dignity and autonomy, fundamental to well‑being and reducing suffering.

Rigorous training programs and audit processes translate into safer, more effective care, directly diminishing risks like medication errors and hospital readmissions. When caregivers are empowered through continuing education and incentives, they foster a resilient workforce dedicated to personalized support and independence, enabling seniors to age in place with confidence and purpose.
